The festival, through the exploration of tradition, promotes new
cultural and performance research: it is, therefore, not simply an “historical
pageant”, but above all a pageant that allows one to discover what is today, the
rich cultural and artistic patrimony of the “Montefeltro” territory, of which
Urbino is indisputably the capital. The “rioni”, or districts of the historical
centre, through the preparation of shows, exhibitions and workshops, allow
visitors not only to become familiar with and admire the local crafts and
traditions of the area, but also to become protagonists when the curtain opens
on this magnificent stage called Urbino.
Exhibitions: “The Intelligence of Hands” (restoration, microengraving, art
printing, typography, ceramics, frames, wrought iron, lutes, etc.); “The
Renaissance Costume: both art and technique” (exhibition of Renaissance costumes
and textile craftsmanship).
Open workshops: production of leather masks, straw and weaving techniques, weaving on antique looms, painting on fabric, wool and cloth dyeing, embroidery, macramé and bobbin lace.
Markets: Renaissance markets and markets of contemporary art objects (goldsmiths, ceramists, glass-makers, potters, weavers, stonecutters, etc.) Theatre, music and dance: various forms of theatrical productions (street artists, musicians, pavement artists, Renaissance dancers, magicians, quickchange artists and illusionists, etc.)
Historical films: The following films will be shown: “Brancaleone alle crociate” by M.Monicelli, “Ettore Fieramosca” by A.Blasetti, “Il mestiere delle armi” by E. Olmi; film director Mario Monicelli and actress Stefania Sandrelli are scheduled to participate.
Historical re-enactments: re-enactment of the event in which Duke Federico loses an eye during the celebrations for the conquest of the seigniory of Milan by Francesco Sforza, court tournaments, battlefields, armed watchmen, etc. Gastronomy: historical-gastronomic reconstruction of taverns and gardens where one can taste foods prepared according to authentic recipes of the Renaissance.
